Education

Experienced and creative credentialed teacher available for tutoring preK-to high school students. I have a wealth of experience working with students who struggle with reading, writing, and math. I have worked as both a classroom teacher and educational therapist to help students achieve goals and find success in academics and improve classroom behavior. Many students have holes in their foundation of math or language arts skills--by remediating those missing pieces, students are better able to work autonomously. I specialize in working with students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and school failure. I also have a love for early childhood education and school readiness for preK children.

Experience

I received my Special Education teaching credential from California State University, Northridge. I also took the testing necessary to also qualify for an English credential to teach Middle School and High School English. I feel most confident teaching English, but due to the need for qualified math teachers, I brushed up on my math skills to tutor students at a juvenile detention center in math so they could earn their High School diplomas. Here are the highlights of my teaching career: Tutor for California High School Exit Exam / GED; Teacher for art, history, language arts grades 1-8; High School English Teacher grades 9-10; Reading Teacher; Oversaw tutoring program for students in grades K-8.

Hobbies

I enjoy art in all forms--going to museums and creating pieces at home. Whenever I am able, I incorporate art and sensory materials into teaching. When I'm not making a big mess at my kitchen table with a craft project, I'm working on remodeling the house, teaching my old dog new tricks, swimming, running, hiking, or reading.
